Man, what's that they say about idle hands...?

With that in mind, I'm issuing the 24-hour Challenge.

Here's what you do. First, don't sign up. Really, it's just 24 hours, there's not a lot of time for niceties. Plus, no pressure. Which may mean that no one ever finishes, but I'll take that chance. (Or hey, by all means, sign up if you think it'll motivate you to finish.) Then, pick one of the sentences below. Write a story with the chosen sentence as the first line. I don't much care how long it is -- poem, drabble, epic or even just a really, really clever additional sentence. (If you can write an epic in 24 hours, by the way, I'll be really, really impressed.) And you know, if you have to change the opening sentence a little, go for it. Just write! Post the story any time within the next 24 hours. Ish. Or so. Once the story is written and posted... somewhere -- web page, LJ, somewhere else publicly accessible that's not a bathroom wall -- then comment here with the URL.

That's pretty much it. Go! Go forth! Channel all that energy into writing, already! It's not like y'all can tell me you don't have the time.

And speaking of...

1. "You don't have time!" Chris was saying, and sure, the buses would be leaving in fifteen minutes -- no more, no less -- but there was still time.

2. "Brian, you're the biggest, hugest dork that ever dorked upon the earth."

P.S. If you really hate the sentences, you can skip that bit. If you must. If you want to make me cry.
P.P.S. Stories can also be posted directly into comments here. I'm most likely not going to make a web page for this, the challenge won't exist anywhere but here. Take a chance. Write anonymously if you must. Just write.

"You don't have time!" Chris was saying, and sure, the buses would be leaving in fifteen minutes -- no more, no less -- but there was still time.

"It's not like they're going to leave without us," said Joey, shimmying into a pair of jeans and hitting the corridor at a dead run, straight past Chris who was holding out his hand for a high five, straight past the wardrobe crates, past the stagehands who were having a quick smoke. Right up to a hastily-cobbled-together fence that JC was leaning over, signing autographs under the watchful eye of security.

"Hey," he said breathlessly, and reached out to the crowd that surged toward him as he appeared, grabbing a pen, grabbing a photo.

"Hey," JC said, not even looking at him. "I thought you were already on your bus."

"No." Joey signed three autographs before going on. "Kelly's putting Briahna down. I came over here instead."

"Why?"

It didn't seem like a rhetorical question. And JC still hadn't looked at him. "JC," he said, softly, though he was sure that no one but JC could hear him over the screams from everyone else. "You knew they were coming. We talked about it."

Four more autographs.

"It wasn't supposed to change everything," said JC, and capped his pen. "We said it wouldn't."

"It had to." Maybe they had hoped it wouldn't, maybe they'd thought things would be just the way they used to be on tour, but it couldn't happen that way. Not anymore. "I'm sorry. Maybe we could--"

"Maybe," JC interrupted him. Joey had to look back over his shoulder to see JC quickly stalk away, disappearing behind his bus.

Joey signed two more autographs and said his good-byes.

"This won't take long," Justin said before turning back to keep kissing JC, already rubbing himself mindlessly against his thigh, and slamming the dressing room door in Chris's face.

"You don't have time!" Chris was saying, and sure, the buses would be leaving in fifteen minutes -- no more, no less -- but there was still time.

"There is always time," Lance growled as he glared up at Chris, a wild look in his green eyes. He gripped his hands until his knuckles turned white, his thumbs working rapidly.

"But, Lance!" Chris gasped, his eyes wide and his hands griping the ends of his shirt. "The bus will leave - We can do this later. There will be time later!"

Lance's grip and manipulations never faultered.

"Guys!" Joey's voice rang through the door. "We really don't have time for this! You can do it on the bus!"

"I am not finishing this on the bus," Lance growled. "I might not be able to finish it. I'm not going to be in the zone, I'm going to be horrible again."

"Lance, you're never horrible!" Chris squeaked.

"You said yourself that I'm horrible!" Lance screamed, his hands working faster than ever.

"Lance, NOOOOO!" Chris screamed.

Lance screamed louder than Chris, so loud that his laughter could be heard on the bus, where JC was curled up on the couch with a book.

"What in the world was that?" he asked, looking away from his novel to peer at Justin.

"Oh, that was Lance." Justin said, not looking up from his magazine. "He just beat Chris' high score on bust-a-move."

"You don't have time!" Chris was saying, and sure, the buses would be leaving in fifteen minutes -- no more, no less -- but there was still time.

There was always time for Justin to drag Lance into a dark corner and whisper filth to him, then drop to his knees and lick and suck until Lance's eyes crossed. There was always time for Lance to snake his hand into Justin's pants and swallow his moans with a kiss.

"It's amazing what I can do with fifteen minutes, Chris." said Justin.

JC looked on grinning, and leaned over to whisper in Chris' ear. "Do you want me to show you what I can do in fifteen minutes, Chris?"

For once Chris was speechless and could only nod.

Challenge response here. I decided to combine the openings, because, well, I'm difficult and strange.

"You don't have time!" Chris was saying, and sure, the buses would be leaving in fifteen minutes -- no more, no less -- but there was still time.

“Dude, if you’d shut up and help me carry this shit I’d have plenty of time!” Justin checked one last time to make sure JC still had Joey and Lance distracted and climbed on the bus. Chris rolled his eyes, picked up a roll of toilet paper that Justin had dropped, and followed.

Ten minutes later, Joey, Lance, and JC found them leaning against the side of the two-man bus. Chris was smoking a cigarette and Justin was doing his best to stifle a grin.

“What took you guys so long?” Chris was always better at feigning innocence.

“We were helping C find his hat,” Lance said. “Turns out he’d already packed it.”

“Great! You made it back just in time,” Justin said, unable to hold back a giggle.

Joey narrowed his eyes at Chris. “Man, what did you give him? And where’s mine?”

“Joseph! I’m shocked that you’d imply such a thing. Come on, Justin, we’re leaving. We don’t have to stand for these wild allegations.” Chris threw down his cigarette, grabbed Justin by the arm, and stalked back toward their bus, trailing toilet paper from the bottom of his boot.

Lance just shook his head and mumbled, “I’m too tired for this shit.” He pulled open the door and was assaulted by the smell of shaving cream. “What the fuck?”

JC collapsed on the hard asphalt, eyes streaming as his laughter echoed across the near deserted parking lot. Joey stuck his head inside to survey the damage. Toilet paper and shaving cream covered every surface.

“Oh, we are so gonna get them back for this”
